Discussion about Beanie Sigel - The B.Coming
Otrytrerl
The first album that came out on Damon Dash's Music Group under the Roc-A-Fella Records umbrella - "Same Building, different situation" as Jay-Z simply stated in a recent interview. So Beanie Sigel stays with Damon Dash & Kareem Biggs , while Memphis Bleek is still down with his long time friend and affiliate Jay-Z. Both released their long awaited albums in the last months (in fact the only 2 i bought this year so far). While "534" by Memphis Bleek took me at least 5 listening rounds to really appreciate all the trax on it, THE COMING just blew my mind straight away . The best sound from New York this decade. Just look at the producer and guest list and you wil know why this album sounds so great . DJ Scratch, Just Blaze, Bink! even Heavy D and Buckwild besdes The Neptunes and a few newcomers that add a little flavour to the overall sonic experience(of course expertly mastered by Tony Dawsey as usual). Most of all it's Beani Sigel's voice and strong lyrical delivery that gives him the edge over most other rappers. When he rocks the mic side by side with Big Dogs like Redman, Snoop Dogg or even Jay-Z he is more than able to hold his weight in the track and makes clear who's album this is. So at first i had the feeling as if Redman and Snop just added a mediocre delivery here; but that's not true. They just add their flavour (esp. Snoop who brought along The Neptunes for his new sound) Sadat X, Grand Puba and Buckwild are the queerest trio to appear on this album . The "Bread & Butter" track takes awhile to really grab the listener: It's a funny , on point and a bit crazy diss to women who take their man as a purse. Here and on the "DON'T STOP" with Snoop B. comes with blunt + explicit lyrics. Otherwise his delivery is deep, deep and a bit dark. The producer's digged deep in the crates for the great Samples, that give "THE COMING" the typical New York / Harlem / Roc-a-Fella Feel. The ROC stands strong to support Mister B. here. Cam'ron shines on the last track over that well known Bon Jovie's / Richie Samborra Guitar riff from "Wanted Dead Or Alive". I just bought that album today and listened to it for 3 hours straight away - It's that good ! At last I have to mention my favourite track on the album : "PURPLE RAIN" Featuring BUN B (from UGK). Over the melody of Keith Sweat's sweet Soul Serenade "In The Rain" and DJ Scratch's excellent beats + production both B.'s give PROPS to the South's purple Weed and purple Syrup in a straight forward manner. Excellent strong stuff.
