Discussion about Bubblerock - Bubble Rock Is Here To Stay
Mayno
Calling this album a 'mixed bag' is an understatement. The brain-child of Jonathan King, who I would best describe at England's answer to Kim Fowley, don't be fooled by the title and think this is a straight-up bubblegum LP - it's far from that. Featuring 12 re-workings of classic 50's & 60's pop/rock songs, as done by King, ranging from a baroque version of "Rock Around The Clock", to hard rock version of "Have I The Right?". The whole LP has a very proto-punk feel, and King's vocals sound at times like a mix between Fowley and Lou Reed (I said at times). The LP needs to be reissued on CD, as it is an unknown gem that deserves further attention and discovery.FWIW, although it's not listed on the master page, this LP was issued in the US, on UK Records (my pressing).
